SS.6.W.3.3- Compare life in Athens and Sparta (government and the status of citizens,
women and children, foreigners, helots).

SS.6.W.3.4- Explain the causes and effects of the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Student Goals: 

  • Students will describe the social structures of both Athens and Sparta.
  • Students will apply their knowledge of Athens and Sparta to discuss how the differences between the two cities impacted residents’ lives
  • Students will describe the relationship between Greek city-states and how the Persian War united them.
  • Students will discuss the effects of the Peloponnesian Wars on the city-state system. Athens’ power, and the conquest of the Macedonians. 
Classroom Activities

Students will complete a Nearpod activity on the relationship between the Athenians and the Spartans. Students will watch video clips and take some notes in their spiral notebooks. They will work cooperatively and independently throughout the nearpod and even complete a few small quizzes and short response questions. 

Students will then begin their lesson on the Persian wars. This activity will have students working in a whole groups setting reading and answering question together. They will then perform small skits to reenact the 4 main battles of this time period.

ALL IEP and ESOL accommodations will be provided daily.
