MAFS.8.NS.1.1 Know that numbers that are not rational are called irrational. Understand informally that every number has a decimal expansion; for rational numbers show that the decimal expansion repeats eventually, and convert a decimal expansion which repeats eventually into a rational number.

MAFS.8.NS.1.2 Use rational approximations of irrational numbers to compare the size of irrational numbers, locate them approximately on a number line diagram, and estimate the value of expressions (e.g., pi2).

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational numbers

Classroom Activities

Monday

Start new MathSpace assignments:

  1. Operations with Positive and Negative Decimals
  2. Squares and Cubes

Continue IXL and MathSpace assignments from previous week if not complete.

MathSpace

  1. Fractions to Decimals
  2. Rational and Irrationals

If a score of at least 70% is not achieved, the MathSpace assignment is reassigned to be done over again.

IXL

  1. D.4 Convert between decimals to fractions or mixed numbers
  2. D.5 Identify rational and irrational numbers
  3. D.6 Absolute value of rational numbers
  4. D.1 Write fractions in lowest terms
  5. D.2 Least common denominator
  6. A.8. Classify numbers
  7. E.2 Add and subtract rational numbers

Students are to continue working on the IXL assignments until a SmartScore of at least 70% is achieved on each assignment.

Wednesday (Short Class – Early Release Period)

Start new IXL assignments:

  1. F.16
  2. F.21

Thursday

Complete all IXL and MathSpace assignments from previous weeks and this week.
