Week #7
Unit of Instruction1 / Definitions, Segments and Angle Pairs
Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.912.G-CO.1.1

Know precise definitions of angle, circle, perpendicular line, parallel line, and line segment, based on the undefined notions of point, line, distance along a line, and distance around a circular arc.

MAFS.912.G-CO.3.9

Prove theorems about lines and angles; use theorems about lines and angles to solve problems. (Theorems include: vertical angles are congruent; when a transversal crosses parallel lines, alternate interior angles are congruent and corresponding angles are congruent; points on a perpendicular bisector of a line segment are exactly those equidistant from the segment’s endpoints.)

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • identify the undefined notions used in geometry (point, line, plane, distance) and describe their characteristics
  • identify angles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, rays, and line segments.
  • define angles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, rays, and line segments precisely using the undefined terms and “if-then” (conditional) and “if-and-only-if” (bi-conditional) statements.
  • apply theorems, postulates, (including angle addition) or definitions to prove theorems about lines and angles.
Classroom Activities

Monday (Holiday) / Tuesday (7th and 8th Period Geometry)

Review Angle Pairs of Parallel Lines and Transverals.

MathSpace complete the following tasks:

  1. Cointerior Angles
  2. Alternate Angles

Homework:

On www.mathnation.com in the Geometry tab, please watch the following videos and complete the Study Guide for each topic:

  1. Section 3: Topic 8:  Perpendicular Transversals
  2. Section 3: Topic 9:  Proving Angles and Points Relationships in Transversals and Parallel Lines Scenarios

Wednesday (2nd Period – Early Release Day)

Review Unit 1 for Test.  Review definitions need to know for for test.  Review problems on MathSpace that are examples of problems on the test.

Complete missing MathSpace assignments.

Homework:

Study for test.  Use completed Geometry Nation Study Guides to study.  Also re-watch the videos from Geometry Nation of material that you feel you need more help with.  Email questions to teacher before start of test.

Thursday (2nd Period Geometry) / Friday (7th & 8th Period Geometry)

Unit 1:  Definitions, Segments and Angle Pairs Summative

If students complete the summative before the end of the class period, they are complete any missing Unit 1 MathSpace Assignments and/or Geometry Nation Study Guides (from Weeks 3 – 6).

Homework:

Get a jump on Unit 2(A):  Triangle Congruence and Proofs.  On www.mathnation.com in the Geometry tab, please watch the following videos and complete the Study Guide for each topic:

  1. Section 2, Topic 1:  Introduction to Transformations
  2. Section 2, Topic 2:  Examining and Using Translations
