Science Learning Targets:  

We will begin our unit on plant responses.

SC.3.L.14.2 : Students will investigate and describe how plants respond to stimuli (heat, light, gravity), such as the way plant stems grow toward light and their roots grow downward in response to gravity.

Science Learning Activities: Students will learn about how plants respond to light, gravity, and heat. Students will conduct research through reading passages about plant responses. They will hypothesize about what will happen to plants when they are given no light, turned over, or results of different temperatures on a plant. They will also make observations of these plants and the effects the stimuli will have.

Science Vocabulary:

Dormancy: when plants growth stops or slows down in order to stay alive

Germination: when a seed begins to grow

Wilting: the drooping and shriveling up of s plant, usually due to lack of water or heat

Science Vocabulary:

roots: part of the plant that soaks up the nutrients and water from the soil, holds the plant in the ground

stem: part of the plant that brings the water and nutrients to the rest of the plant, holds the plant up

leaves: part of the plant that makes the food

photosynthesis: the process which a plant makes its own food

seeds: the part of the plant that is responsible for reproduction of the plant

Math Learning Targets:

Students will be able to find area using the distributive property, find the area of composite figures and recognize the relationship between area and perimeter.

Math Learning Activities:

Students will be working from My Math chapter 13 and will practice their skills in math centers using IXL, I-ready and math practice activities. 

IXL: FF 16, FF 17, FF 18

ELA Activities: Students will participate in small groups during centers and also practicing on Iready and Istation.

3.L.3.4a: Use context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
