Week of 5-14

Science Learning Targets:  How do living things change with seasons? What do plants need? How do plants and animals get energy?

Science Learning Activities: Unit 7 test. Unit 8: Living Things Change

Students will describe how animals and plants respond to changing seasons. Students will also recognize that plants use energy from the sun, air and water to make their own food. Students will also take the science SMT district assessment. It will assess what they have learned in science this year.

Math Learning Targets: Students will work on a review of time. They will tell time on digital and analog clocks, tell time to the minute, and determine elapsed time.  

Math Learning Targets: Students will determine elapsed time using a number line, T-chart and timeline.  

IXL: T.1-13

Social Studies: Students will be able to identify major ways environmental influences contribute to settlement patterns and recognize the different cultures that have settled in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

 ELA Learning Targets:

Students will review main idea/central idea, cause/effect, context clues, mood and sequencing. Students will be able to ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.

ELA Activities:

Students will be reading the story “Wizard of Oz” for comprehension. Students will participate in small groups during centers and also practicing on IXL, I-Station, as well as reviewing concepts from the previous unit.

Social Studies: Students will be able to give examples of how scarcity results in trade, list the characteristics of money and recognize that buyer and sellers interact to exchange goods and services through use of money.

There will be no more spelling and vocabulary assessments for this year.

There will be a VLT 3 reading assessment for this week.
