We are excited for our upcoming Christmas events! During the last week of school, we will be participating in Christmas Around the World with 2nd graders. On the last day of school before break we will have a Christmas Cookie Exchange. Students can bring hot chocolate and cookies to share! A flyer will be going home with more details!

There will not be any spelling or vocabulary assessments for this week or next. We will be reviewing Authors Point of View and working on our essay’s all week. Essays will be completed in school, not at home.

ELA Activities: Students will participate in small groups during centers and also practicing on Iready and Istation.

ELA Learning Targets:

LAFS.3.Rl.2.6: Distinguish their own point of view from that of the author of a text.

3.RL.2.6: Determine an author’s point of view based on words and phrases that signal the author’s opinion.

Writing Targets

W.3.1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.

W.3.4: With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose.

Social Studies: SS.3.G.1.1: Use thematic maps, tables, charts, graphs, and photos to analyze geographic information.

Science Learning Targets:  Students will be able to explain how energy can create motion or change (light, heat, sound, mechanical and electrical).

Science Learning Activities: During science, students will participate in a ruler ramps experiment, create a circle map for mechanical energy and work on a sort for electrical energy.

Math Learning Targets:

Students will be able to use different strategies, models and patterns to multiply and divide by 6,7, 8 and 9.

Math Learning Activities: Students will be working from My Math Chapter 8. Students will practice using arrays, equal groups, properties, decomposing factors, using a known fact, doubling a known fact, and repeated subtraction. Students will practice these skills in centers and on IXL and Prodigy.
