MAFS.912..G-C.2.5:  Derive using similarity the fact that the length of the arc intercepted by an angle is proportional to the radius and define the radian measure of the angle as the constant of proportionality; derive the formula for the area of a sector.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
  • To review basic area formulas in preparation for learning about 2-dimensional measurement.
  • To define and derive the sector area.
  • To calculate the area of a sector using the ratio of the intercepted arc measure by degrees multiplied by the area of the circle.
  • To convert between radians and degrees.
Classroom Activities


  • Students will take a Summative on Quadrilaterals.


  • Students will create a foldable on Area Formulas.


  • Students will create a foldable on Arc Length and Sector Area.
