#### MAFS.8.SP.1.1: Construct and interpret scatter plots for bivariate measurement data to investigate patterns of association between two quantities. Describe patterns such as clustering, outliers, positive or negative association, linear association, and nonlinear association.

MAFS.8.SP.1.2: Know that straight lines are widely used to model relationships between two quantitative variables. For scatter plots that suggest a linear association, informally fit a straight line, and informally assess the model fit by judging the closeness of the data points to the line.

MAFS.8.SP.1.3: Use the equation of a linear model to solve problems in the context of bivariate measurement data, interpreting the slope and intercept.
Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
• construct a scatter plot by plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate grid representing the relationship between two data sets.
• describe patterns in the plotted points such as clustering, outliers, positive or negative association, and linear or non-linear association and describe the pattern in the context of the measurement data.
• explain the patterns of association of scatter plots of bivariate data in the context of the data sample.
• construct straight trend lines to approximate the linear relationship between the plotted points of two data sets.
• justify the reliability of the trend line by noting the closeness of the data points to the line.
• understand that the trend line does not have to be proportional.
• determine the equation of the trend line that approximates the linear relationship between the plotted points of two data sets.
• interpret the y-intercept and slope of the equation in the context of the collected data.
• use the equation of the trend line to summarize the given data and make predictions regarding additional data points.

1st, 2nd and 6th Period Students: There will be a Zoom meeting with Ms. Andreason at specific time below to discuss upcoming course work and procedures. You can go to the Zoom website (https://zoom.us) or download the free Zoom app on your phone, click on Join a Meeting and type in the meeting ID (7580487309) . You can connect through audio only if you don’t want to be on video.  We will meet each week on Monday at the following times.

1st : Monday, March 30th, 11:00 am to 11:45 am

2nd and 6th periods:  Monday, March 30th, 12:00 noon to 12:45 pm

Monday:

• Zoom meeting as indicated above  (45 minutes)
• Students will complete “Doodle Notes” on scatter plots (15 minutes)

Tuesday:

• Students will do pages 240-241 in their Ready Math book  (20 minutes)
• Students will visit www.khanacademy.org/join and enter their class code.  First period’s class code is Q5BU6PDS.  Second period’s class code is ZG2KGD8Y.  Third period’s class code is 23XA6AQ3.  Please be sure to put in the correct class code with your correct information to get credit for the work you complete.  Students will sign in to Khan Academy at www.khanacademy.org and complete the first assigned video “Constructing a Scatter Plot” and first assigned practice “Making Appropriate Scatter Plots.”  (10 minutes)
• Students will do IXL CC.New! (Create Scatter Plots) (this one is shown after CC.14)  (30 min)

Wednesday:

• Students will go onto iReady (it is now in the box that says Digital Resources on VPortal instead of its own box) and do the assigned lesson on Scatterplots.  (60 minutes)

Thursday:

• Review the “Doodle Notes” on scatter plots (5 minutes)
• Students will sign in to Khan Academy at www.khanacademy.org and complete the assigned video “Example of direction in scatterplots” and assigned practice “Positive and negative linear associations from scatter plots.”  (15 minutes)
• Students will do the worksheet in their folder called Scatter Plot Practice.  (10 minutes)
• Students will do pages 242-245 in their Ready Math workbook.  (30 minutes)

Friday:

• Students will complete pages 246-247 in their Ready Math workbook.  (30 minutes)
• Students will do IXL CC.15 Identify Trends with Scatter Plots.  (30 minutes)
