# Q3 W6 Mar 1-Mar 5 Algebra 1

Teacher Stephanie Durrance Algebra 1 Honors 7th/8th 6 UNIT 9: Quadratic Equations and Functions Part II
Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.912.F-IF.3.8a: Write a function defined by an expression in different but equivalent forms to reveal and explain different properties of the function. Use the process of factoring and completing the square in a quadratic function to show zeros, extreme values, and symmetry of the graph, and interpret these in terms of a context.

MAFS.912.F-IF.3.7a: Graph functions expressed symbolically and show key features of the graph, by hand in simple cases and using technology for more complicated functions. a. Graph quadratic functions and show intercepts, maxima, and minima.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• explain that there are three forms of quadratic functions: standard form, vertex form, and factored form. • identify and graph key features (zeros, intervals of increasing/decreasing, extrema, and axis of symmetry) of a quadratic when written in one of the three forms • write the function that describes a parabola in all three forms when given a graph • identify the key features of a function by looking at its graph. • explain that the parent function for quadratic functions is the parabola explain that the minimum or maximum of a quadratic is called the vertex
