SC.8.E.5.7  Compare and contrast the properties of objects in the Solar System including the Sun, planets, and moons to those of Earth, such as gravitational force, distance from the Sun, speed, movement, temperature, and atmospheric conditions.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will:

• differentiate between characteristics of objects in the solar system (including the sun, planets and their moons) with Earth in terms of:

        o gravitational force, distance from the Sun, speed, movement, orbital path, temperature, and atmospheric conditions 
 
• explain how the length of year of a planet is related to the distance from the sun
 
• compare the atmospheres of the planets to the atmosphere of Earth in terms of surface temperature, including: o presence, absence, or relative thickness

Assignments Due
  1. Students should turn in the answers only to the questions of the PBS NOVA documentary: Planets Inner Worlds by messaging just the numbered answers through Edmodo. Please see Edmodo for the documentary questions. The answers are due by Monday, May 11 at noon.
  2. A quiz will be on Friday, May 8 over the entire week’s lessons. This quiz is open note and will cover all of the lessons from this week. Completed assignments and notes should be used to take this quiz. It will be given through Edmodo.

***The 2 assignments for the week will be averaged for one formative grade. This grade will be entered in to grade book.***

***If you have problems getting on Edmodo or other technology to complete the assignments or to take the quiz, please contact Dr. Newcomb. These assignments can be modified to be given by a Zoom meeting or by phone.***
