Welcome to music class

  • Rules of the music classroom (go over)
  • Be assigned circle spots
  • Practice procedures (finding circle spots, no running, how we walk into music, etc.)


  • Name game / Icebreaker (Rickety, Rackity) – play with rhythm sticks
  • Beat Buddy exercise (finding and maintaining a steady beat)
  • Rules of Music Class song (K-1)
  • John Kanaka (2nd) (possibly K-1)
    • Learn folk dance (2nd)


  • Introduce the instruments of the music room
    • “I can play an instrument” song
    • Have students rotate between instrument stations
