Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will sing using their singing voices. 

Students will listen to and sing songs in various meters/time signatures. 

Students will learn about different time signatures and how to identify time signatures in a piece of music. 

Students will be able to identify how many beats are in a measure of music. 

Students will perform on boomwackers or homemade instruments. 

Students will do musical dictation. 

Students will perform the notes B,A,G,E,D on recorders.

Classroom Activities

Welcome 

  • Review “I Can” statement
  • Go over what we will do in class for the day 

New songs (TBD) – listen and go over lyrics

  • Identify the time signature in each new piece

Introduction to  Meter 

  • Review powerpoint 
  • Time Signature Toast activity 

Dictation 

  • Miss Holvey will play a rhythm
  • Students will write the rhythm they hear (various quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests, etc.) 

If more time is needed, Boomwackers (F2F students) or homemade instruments 

  • Students will play various songs and rhythms on their instruments

Recorder Unit 

  • Review notes (B,A,G,E,D) 
  • Play Old MacDonald, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle Twinkle
