Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will sing using their singing voices.
Students will learn about the classical composer Saint-Saens and his famous work “The Carnival of the Animals.”
Students will listen to and identify the different pieces and match the piece to the animal it represents (in Carnival of the Animals)
Students will create a composer board choosing from Beethoven, Mozart, and Saint-Saens and present their complete projects to the class.

Classroom Activities

Welcome, “I Can” statement

Composer: Camille Saint-Saens
– Powerpoint presentation
– Listen to a few of his famous works

“Carnival of the Animals”
– Listen to each of the 14 pieces from this collection
– Play a bingo assessment game to practice listening and music identification

Composer Board Project
– Students will choose from the 3 composers we discussed in class to do a board on. (Beethoven, Mozart, Saint-Saens)
– The board will be filled with pictures and information that we learned in class
– Students will present their boards to the class

Recorders (weather permitting)
– Review B,A,G,D,E,F, high D, high C
– Play Recorder Karate songs and receive belts
