Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will utilize art skills and imagination for original character builds.
Students will use story elements in creating an original story.

Classroom Activities

Special area right now is for enrichment purposes only.
Work will be kept at a minimum in order to reduce the workload for our students working from home.

The following is an assignment that can be chosen to send in for assessment.  They are allowed to choose any one exercise from my assignment options.
It is not due until April 30th.

For this lesson, create a puppet of an original character.  There are several ways to do this:
– paper bag puppet using craft supplies for facial features
– found object puppets using items like socks, cardboard, fabric, etc.
– hand puppets with washable markers and craft supplies to detail facial features
Additional ideas for the puppets can be found here: http://www.childdrama.com/found-object-puppets.html

Once the puppet has been created, have your student create a story about their character.  They should be able to answer the following questions:
– What is their puppet’s name?
– What do they like to do for fun?
– How do they spend their day? (Do they go to school/work? Fight crime? etc.)
– Where do they live? (In a house? At the beach? On a mountain? etc.)

Please email a photo of the puppet and any story details they came up with to (terhuner@ivyhawnschool.org).
