ELA INSTRUCTION

Standards:

Learning Targets:

–          Identify the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text.

–          Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.

–          Report on a topic or text or present an opinion, sequencing ideas logically and using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes

–          Students will use Greek and Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word.

–          Students will acquire and use academic and domain specific words and phrases.

e-Learning Assignments:

Weekly grades will be taken from all weekly work completed and submitted to the teacher either through email or digital platforms. The weekly assignments will be added together and an average score will be given as the weekly assessment score.

I am going to be getting on Teams at 2pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I will host a meeting that you can join in. You do not have to join but I thought it might be a fun a way to check in with each other, ask questions, and do a little classwork together. The work will be quick and just a review of skills or a fun activity. It will only by for 30 min. so from 2 – 2:30 I will post the meeting in TEAMS and if you want to hop on just hit join meeting. I hope to see you guys in at least some of the meetings J This meeting does not replace the work listed below but is just something I thought would be fun for us to do together. It is not mandatory.

  • Monday: 30 minutes of i-Ready. Log on through v Portal. You should be able to complete 1 or 2 lessons and quizzes.
  • Tuesday: Text Structure Review. Go to www.nearpod.com and use the code OBWIT to complete the lesson. There is nothing you need to turn in I can see who completed the assignments and their time spent on the activities online. You may print out the score tracker sheet that is below in resources if you want to use to track your score.
  • Wednesday: 15 min on www.ixl.com skills D.5 and  and 15 min on www.readworks.com. Read the assigned article “Children of the Storm” and complete the quiz. You do not need to do the written response question. Remember to follow the sign in directions for Readworks and IXL that you can find on this document Digital Platforms Access Cheat Sheet.  You can also find it in Teams under files and on Classroom Connect. There is nothing you need to turn in I can see who completed the assignments and their time spent on the activities online.
  • Thursday: Paragraph Writing. We are going to do another Nearpod and work on writing well-formed paragraphs. Follow this link to go to Nearpod.com and use the code HXBQS to complete the lesson. You will be writing your paragraphs in the nearpod so there is no need to turn in any other work to me. I will see what you wrote in the nearpod. Remember to follow the sign in directions for Nearpod that you can find on this document Digital Platforms Access Cheat Sheet.  You can also find it in Teams under files and on Classroom Connect.
  • Friday: Read the article ‘Saturn V’ by either printing it out from the resources below or simply opening the link and reading it online. Then go to www.goformative.com and complete the 5 question quiz about the article titled Saturn V.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Learning Targets:

  • Students will be able to describe the hardships of settlers along the overland trails to the west
  • Students will be able to identify roles and contributions of significant people during the expansion of western expansion

e-Learning Assignments:

  • Monday: Go to www.brainpop.com and watch the video titled Branches of Government. Once you watch the video click on the games link and play the branches of government game (you need to have adobe flash player downloaded to your computer). If you cannot play the game just let me know on teams or through remind. Once you have watched the video and played the game complete the graded quiz. Use the sign in directions in this document Digital Platforms Access Cheat Sheet.  You can also find it in Teams under files and on Classroom Connect. There are no papers to turn BUT you need to email your quiz results or send me a screen shot of your finished quiz grade through email.
  • Tuesday: Go to www.nearpod.com for Branches of the Government Lesson use code MHKVT. Today you will complete slides 1 – 7. This is the section on the Executive Branch. There are no papers to turn in I can see who did the work in the nearpod.
  • Wednesday:   Go to www.nearpod.com for Branches of the Government Lesson use code MHKVT. Today you will complete slides 8 – 11. This is the section on the Legislative Branch. Just skip forward to the correct slide to start today’s lesson. Your work from yesterday is not saved for you to see but I can see it in my Nearpod report. There are no papers to turn in I can see who did the work in the nearpod.
  • Thursday:   Go to www.nearpod.com for Branches of the Government Lesson use code MHKVT. Today you will complete slides 12 – 16. This is the section on the Judicial Branch. Just skip forward to the correct slide to start today’s lesson. Your work from yesterday is not saved for you to see but I can see it in my Nearpod report. There are no papers to turn in I can see who did the work in the nearpod.
  • Friday:  Go to www.nearpod.com and use the code PAQJV. This game will take you about 30 min to play through depending on how long you take to make some of your choices. Make sure you answer the questions on the last slide of the nearpod.
