# Q3W4 (1/30 – 2/3 ) Teacher Kathleen Manning Math/Science 4 4 Add/Subtract Fractions, Energy and Motion
Standard(s) Taught

MATH:   MA.4.FR.2.2    MA.4.AR.1.2    MA.4.FR.2.1

• Add and subtract fractions with like denominators, including mixed numbers and fractions greater than one, with procedural reliability.
• Solve real-world problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, including mixed numbers and fractions greater than one.
• Decompose a fraction, including mixed numbers and fractions greater than one, into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in multiple ways. Demonstrate each decomposition with objects, drawings and equations.

SCIENCE:  SC.4.P.12.2

• Investigate and describe that the speed of an object is determined by the distance it travels in a unit of time and that objects can move at different speeds.
Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

The student will:

• Write a fraction as a sum of unit fractions.
• Represent mixed numbers as a fraction.
• Add and subtract fractions with like denominators.
• Solve problems using fractions and mixed numbers.
• Explain that the speed of an object is determined by the distance it travels within a unit of time.
• Investigate and compare the speeds of different objects by measuring the distance each object travels during a set amount of time using tools and technology.
• Investigate and compare the speeds of different objects by measuring the amount of time it takes each object to travel a set amount of distance using tools and technology.
• Display obtained speeds in chart, table, and graph format.
