|Subject Area||Dance Tech I/II/III|
|Week #||10 - 18|
|Unit of Instruction||Etiquette, Technique, Choreography|
|Learning Targets and Learning Criteria|
This quarter we will be working on choreography for our Digital Performance, “United We Dance.” We will finish up choreography, work to get it clean, then film it on stage to use for the dvd. Once the work is complete, we will watch it back as a teaching tool for critiquing ourselves and our peers.
We will work with vocabulary from the dance steps we use in our choreography this quarter for our vocabulary Unit 4 test.
We will also study the famous story ballet production, “The Nutcracker,” choreographed by George Balanchine. We will learn some of the choreography from some of the dances as part of class participation.
Other technique training we will work on includes jazz, lyrical, broadway, ballet, and contemporary.
In class, we typically begin with a warm up – either teacher led or student led.
We move on to our learning activity for the day – which will be choreography mainly. Some days we will train with across the floor and center floor dance exercises.
On filming days, we will change into costume and go to the theatre to film our dance for the dvd.
Most of our grades in this class are participation based – which is represented in gradebook as the “Weekly Etiquette” grade.
We will have a few tests including vocabulary and skills checks.
The performance for our Digital Performance will count as a summative grade, and then we will do some reflection and critiques from that performance as formative assessments.
