|Learning Targets and Learning Criteria|
This week we will be looking at LAND USE. As more people are projected to inhabit the Earth, it is important to consider how we will feed them and house them. This week we look deeper into many considerations when it comes to land use and how the land should be dispersed (housing, crops, animal use) versus the consequences of using the land.
Tuesday: Are you going to fair? If so, what are you most looking forward to doing there?
Wednesday: Agriculture is part of our every day life, tell me how YOU are impacted by agriculture.
Friday: “Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you.” Explain what this quote means to you.
ASSIGNMENT: due by Friday, November 5th at the end of class
Agriculture accounts for almost 11% of the jobs in the United States and 28% of jobs in the world! That is a staggering amount of the work force that are employed, in some part, due to agriculture. Then we think that, due to farmers and ranchers, food is on our tables, clothes are on our backs, and roofs are over our heads. It is not always the glowing outlook that we take on, farmers are ranchers take a lot of responsibility for land erosion, emissions, and water pollution. This week as we look at land use, you will look deeper at the pros and cons of agriculture and take a side.
You will look at one, or several of the articles provided, and take a stand. Write a 3 paragraph persuasive essay on farming in the world. Keep in mind what information the articles provide and persuade the reader (me!). Consider the pros and cons of farming; the benefits of the fruits, vegetables and meats that we are provided with vs. the soil erosion, methane gases, and water pollution. Write from your perspective based on the articles you read.
