Learning Targets and Learning Criteria


Students will be able to identify the various jobs in the theater profession.

Students will create a rendering and a floor plan as a set designer might create.

Students will identify special effects used on stage. 

Students will compare and contrast special effects used in a movie and how they would be used on stage.

Students will read their selected plays to prepare for the large group project.

Classroom Activities


Week 10: Tuesday/Thursday: Journal Entry;  Choose Groups and Choose play; Ensemble building game.

Wednesday(All Classes): Journal entry; Hierarchy of the theater and jobs in the theatre; Community Connections.

Friday: Work on play selected, discussion of project, expectations, answer questions, Theatre skill game at end of class. 

Week 11: Monday/Tuesday: Journal Entry; Video on Set Design, exit ticket on video. (If Time allows–ensemble game)

Wednesday: Quiz on the Hierarchy of Theater and community connections. 

Thursday/Friday: Journal entry; difference between a set design rendering and floor plan; choosing one of the plays given create a floor plan and a rendering, game time to finish.

Week 12: Monday/Tuesday: Journal entry; Video on Special Effects; Exit ticket on video; Group  design projects with script; ensemble game or improvisation.

Wednesday: Journal Entry, View Thriller movie short; discussion on Special Effects and how would they translate to the stage.

Thursday/Friday: Video journal entry about special effects, meet with group to finish reading through play and begin set design, ensemble game or improvisation.
