Q2 W4 Nov 30-Dec 4 Algebra 1

TeacherStephanie Durrance
Subject AreaAlgebra 1 Honors
Grade Level7th/8th
Week #4
Unit of InstructionUnit 6 – Exponential and Radical Functions
Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.912.N-RN.1.1: Explain how the definition of the meaning of rational exponents follows from extending the properties of integer exponents to those values, allowing for a notation for radicals in terms of rational exponents.

MAFS.912.N-RN.1.2: Rewrite expressions involving radicals and rational exponents using the properties of exponents.

MAFS.912.A-SSE.2.3c: Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the quantity represented by the expression.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• apply properties of exponents to simplify algebraic expressions with integer and rational exponents. • evaluate and simplify expressions containing zero and integer exponents. • multiply monomials and apply multiplication properties of exponents to evaluate and simplify expressions. • rewrite equivalent expressions between radicals and rational exponents.

• rewrite exponential functions using the properties of exponents. • transform an exponential function to identify quantities in terms of its context.
