Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

My students will work in their iReady workbooks and spend 45 minutes on iReady.

My students will research 25 critical facts about The Titanic and the night it sunk.

My students will participate in discussions and come to class prepared.

My students will read: magazine articles, books, Internet articles, etc. to practice reading and learn new information.

 

My students will learn 3 new vocabulary words: 

pragmatist – a person who is practical and weighs all of the facts

pessimist – a person who usually looks on the negative side of things

optimist – a person who usually looks on the positive side of things

Classroom Activities

I will ZOOM with my classes three times a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. at 11:00 for period 1, 11:30 for period 2, and 12:00 noon for period 3. 

Students will compete their assignments at home in a timely manner. We will discuss answers at the next meeting. I will give 2 formative grades each week. I believe the other core subjects are giving 1 formative grade, but since we are ELA/Reading, we are giving 2 grades.

Monday

  1. Spend some time reading and learning. You may choose from: books, magazines, You Tube Videos that teach you something, Internet articles, etc.
  2. Research the Titanic and her sinking. Write 25 interesting and important facts you found. We will discuss these on Wednesday. 
  3. iReady Workbook: Read and do pp. 108-110. There is a short article, there are 5 multiple choice questions, and one short paragraph to write. We will discuss your answers on Wednesday.

Wednesday – 

  1. Spend 45 minutes on iReady online. Set a timer, and do a good job. 
  2. Think Cerca – This is for a formative grade. Read carefully and prove your answers.                            Point of View and Perspective
  3. Vocabulary words: pragmatist, pessimistic, optimist
  4. Reading – Read books, magazine articles, articles on the Internet, and informational videos on You Tube.
  5. Videos – Watch the four You Tube videos here on this page. Be sure to watch! I will call on you to answer questions on Friday.

Friday –

  1. We will have a discussion about what you’ve read and learned this week. Be ready to tell me the article names or book names you’ve read and what you’ve learned.
  2. Know all three vocabulary words and their meanings. Be ready to use them in a sentence. 
  3. Town Hall Discussion
