LAFS.7.L.2.3a – Choose language that expresses ideas precisely and concisely, recognizing and eliminating wordiness and redundancy.
LAFS.7.L.3.4b – Use common, grade-appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., belligerent, bellicose, rebel).
LAFS.7.SL.1.3 – Delineate a speaker’s argument and specific claims, evaluating the soundness of the reasoning and the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence.
LAFS.7.SL.2.4 – Present claims and findings, emphasizing salient points in a focused, coherent manner with pertinent descriptions, facts, details, and examples; use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear pronunciation.
LAFS.7.SL.2.5 – Include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations to clarify claims and findings and emphasize salient points.
LAFS.7.SL.2.6 – Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate.
|Learning Targets and Learning Criteria|
Baseline Reading and Writing Assessments: Strengths- Baseline assessments are given to assess a students knowledge on a subject prior to instruction. These assessments can be very informative and valuable in a teacher’s planning and implementation. By assessing your students’ prior knowledge teachers are able to compare results. – Students will provide an evaluation of whether the reasoning is sound in an argument.
– Students will provide an evaluation of whether evidence is sufficient and relevant to support a claims.
– Students will research a persuasive speech topic.
– Students will outline a persuasive speech.
Monday, September 14th – Baseline Writing Assessment. Students will write a baseline argumentative essay. (Diagnostic.) Students will have one class period to produce their best piece of writing. Show me what you know! Please type the essay on Word in Vportal. You will then SHARE your essay with me by clicking the SHARE tab and sending it to: HLBaker@volusia.k12.fl.us
Monday, September 14th – Submit Baseline Writing Exam
