Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.7.EE.1.1
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
MAFS.7.EE.1.2
Understand that rewriting an expression in different forms in a problem context can shed light on the problem and how the quantities in it are related.
MAFS.7.EE.2.4
Use variables to represent quantities in a realworld or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students are successful when they can…
use the commutative and associative properties to add linear expressions with rational coefficients.
identify the different parts of an expression including constants and variable terms, like terms, and coefficients.
use the distributive property to add and/or subtract linear expressions with rational coefficients.
use the distributive property to factor out Greatest Common Factor of linear expressions.
explain how an equivalent expression relates to the original situation problem.
rewrite expressions to help analyze problems.
 simplify expressions.
translate situation problems to algebraic expressions.
explain when / why an open or closed dot is used on a number line.
write a linear inequality from a given graph.
