# Q2, W8: January 11th – 15th Regular Math Teacher Felicia Taylor Regular Math 7th 17 Focus 3: Ratios and Proportional Relationships
Standard(s) Taught

4. #### Explain what a point (x, y) on the graph of a proportional relationship means in terms of the situation, with special attention to the points (0, 0) and (1, r) where r is the unit rate.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students are successful when they can…

• analyze ratios in a table to determine if the ratios are equivalent by find the constant of proportionality
• calculate the cross product to determine if the two ratios are in proportion (equivalent).
• graph ratios on a coordinate plane to determine if the ratios are proportional by observing if the graph is a straight line through the origin (y = kx, where k is the slope/ constant of proportionality).
• calculate the constant of proportionality/ unit rate from a table or diagram
• calculate the constant of proportionality/ unit rate given a verbal description of a proportional relationship.
• compute the rate of change/ slope from a graph or equation (k in y=kx)
• sole equations created from proportional relationships
• write an equation from a proportional relationship
• calculate the unit rate by identifying that on a graph when the x-coordinate is 1, the y-coordinate is the unit rate
• define the rate of proportionality from a graph
• explain that the y-coordinate divided by the x-coordinate for every point other than the origin equals the constant of proportionality.
• explain the meaning of a point on a graph y=kx of a real life situation.
