Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.

MAFS.8.G.1.5

Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles.

  • describe when angle measures determine a triangle (given angles equal 180)
  • describe when side measures determine a unique triangle (a + b > c) or (a + b c).
  • determine whether three angle measures of three side lengths can form a triangle.
  • discover the definitions of supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles.
  • solve multi-step problems by applying what you know about the types of angles.
  • informally prove the angle-sum theorem, the properties of angles when parallel lines are cut by a transversal and the angle-angle criterion for similar triangles.
  • prove that the sum of any triangle’s interior angles will have the same measure as a straight angle.
  • make conjectures regarding the relationships and measurements of the angles created when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal.
  • apply proven relationships to establish minimal properties to justify similarity.
  • present informal arguments as to whether or not triangles are similar based on Angle-Angle criterion.
