Vocabulary

  1. boost – help someone up
  2. gash – a deep cut
  3. patch – a group of things growing together: strawberries, peanuts, onions, etc.
  4. swarm of gnats – a large cloud of tiny, irritating insects
  5. hot fudge sundae – a delicious dish of ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, etc.
  6. foul odor – something stinky
  7. gloppier – messier
  8. precipice – the edge of a high place where you might fall
  9. delirious – temporarily out of your head from fever or illness
  10. woodpecker – a bird that pecks rapidly with its beak to drill holes in trees. It is looking for worms and beetles
  11. intertwined – closely knit together
  12. attorney general – the highest law official
  13. murky – cloudy, can’t see through it
  14. ward of the state – no parents or family, can’t live alone
