Q4 Check in Letter

Check-In Letter

Over the next few weeks we will be re-framing the class together, so I wanted to start the digital portion of our class with a quick check-in with you in the form of a short letter. In this letter I am hoping to get a sense of your hopes, fears, expectations, needs, and desires, so that I can create supports and systems that best meet your needs and make the most of a less than ideal situation.  In a roughly one letter, please address the following questions. Feel free to give as much or as little information as you want/need to for each and you can organize it however you want.

Please email me your response or share it with me through Office365.  Remember, if you use Office365, please make sure you send it to me, Merriann Frederick (mgfreder@volusia.k12.fl.us).

➔ First, how are you doing? Is there anything you are particularly worried or upset about or are you generally doing ok? Do you have family members or friends who you are concerned about, were you a part of extracurriculars that were cancelled, and are there other ways that your life has been significantly impacted by this pandemic? Also, how are you passing this time away from school and other people?

➔ What has been going on in your life since the start of the new semester that is not related to COVID-19? What successes have you had since January? What setbacks? And what have you been most interested in and spending the most time on?

➔ When thinking back on the beginning of 6th grade, how have you grown in the short time since we started the school year? If possible, give specifics. For example, don’t just say, “I’m a better writer.” Instead say something like, “I realized that my elaboration was too simplistic, which made my writing choppy. In my informative essays and short response answers, I did a much better job of using elaboration, which provides details for a well-rounded explaination/thought.”

➔ What are you most anxious to work on/learn in the rest of the school year? What do you still feel unsure, concerning, or would like to learn more about? What topics do we absolutely need to cover this year before it ends?

➔ Lastly, what mindspace are you in concerning school work right now? How much work do you think you will be able to do over the next few weeks, and what type of work would be the most appealing to you? Please be honest in this section, as this will help me to calibrate my workload.
