MAFS.6.NS.2.4

Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1-100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor.

MAFS.6.NS.1.1

Interpret and compute quotients of fractions, and solve word problems involving division of
fractions by fractions, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the
problem.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

I know I am successful when I can:

• apply odd and even numbers to understand factors and multiples.
• apply divisibility rules (review rules for 2, 4, 5, 8, and 10),
specifically for 3 and 9.
• find the least common multiple and greatest common factor and
apply factors to the distributive property.

• understand how visual models such as fraction bars and area
models show the division of fractions by fractions with common
denominators.
• make connections to the multiplication of fractions.
• understand that the division of fractions requires students to ask,
“How many groups of the divisor are in the dividend?” to get the
quotient.
• demonstrate further understanding of division of fractions when
creating word problems.
• connect models of fractions to multiplication using multiplicative
inverses as they are represented in models.
• divide fractions by mixed numbers by first converting mixed
numbers into a fraction with a value larger than one.
• use equations to find quotients.

Classroom Activities

This week we will continue our Number Systems unit with GCF/LCM and Multiplying and Dividing Fractions.

Assignments Due

The week students will be assigned the following  to practice class concepts:

IXL: (Monday/Wednesday) E9 students are expected to reach at least an 80% on these assignments.

Mathspace: (Thursday) Homework #1: Multiples and LCM Due Friday 8/31/18

IXL: (Thursday) K6, K11, L5 students are expected to reach at least an 80% on these assignments.

We will take our first test next week 9/6 Thursday (period 1), 9/7 Friday ( period 8). This test will cover GCF, LCM, Multiplying and Dividing Fractions.

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to view a lesson regarding a given topic on Khan Academy. This website is free and provides both video instruction as well as practice problems.

Students are able to complete additional practice on both Mathspace and IXL
