# Q2W7 Honors Math Teacher Kimberlie Hymes Honors Math 6th 16 Statistics and Probability
Standard(s) Taught

MAFS.6.SP.1.1

Recognize a statistical question as one that anticipates variability in the data related to the question and accounts for it in the answers.

MAFS.6.SP.1.2

Understand that a set of data collected to answer a statistical question has a distribution which can be described by its center, spread, and overall shape.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

• understand that the data generated from statistical questions vary. • recognize that responses to statistical questions have variations that can be used to draw conclusions about the data set. • identify the difference between a statistical and non-statistical question. • formulate and write a simple statistical question and explain what data could be collected to answer the question.• understand that data collected to answer a statistical question can be analyzed by their distribution.
• calculate mean, median, mode, and range.
• describe a set of data using its center (mean, median, mode), spread (range), and overall shape.
• create a line plot, histogram, and box plot
• .define the center of a data distribution by a “fair share” value called the mean.
• connect the “fair share” concept with a mathematical formula for finding the mean.

Classroom Activities

In class, we complete the MATH workshop each period. This is a blended, rotation model of teaching where your student is receiving the standards in multiple different settings while completing many different activities. This allows me to have time with your students in a very small group setting to help when necessary further develop the understanding of the standards.

DIA #3 will be Thursday 12/13/18

Assignments Due

The week students will be assigned the following on IXL to practice class concepts:

IXL: (Monday/Wednesday/Thursday) 6th Grade HH1, HH2, HH4

Mathspace: Mathspace MMMR Assignment Due Monday 12-3-18

If additional help is needed, students are encouraged to view a lesson regarding a given topic on Khan Academy. This website is free and provides both video instruction as well as practice problems.

Students are able to complete additional practice on both Mathspace and IXL
