Teacher Terri Robertson science 6 Q1 Week 7 Force and Motion
Standard(s) Taught

SC.6.P.13.1 (DOK Level 2)
Investigate and describe types of forces including contact
forces and forces acting at a
distance, such as electrical,
magnetic, and gravitational.
SC.6.P.13.2 (DOK Level 1)
Explore the Law of Gravity by recognizing that every object exerts
gravitational force on every other object and that the force
depends on how much mass the objects have and how far apart
they are.
SC.6.P.13.3 (DOK Level 2)
Investigate and describe that an unbalanced force acting on an
object changes its speed, or
direction of motion, or
both.

Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Students will:
• investigate and describe types of forces, including:
o Forces at a distance: electrical, magnetic, and gravitational
o Contact forces: normal, applied, friction
Students will:
• explore the Law of Gravity by recognizing that every object exerts gravitational
force on every other object and that force depends on how much mass the
objects have and how far apart they are
Students will:
• investigate and explain how an unbalanced
force acting on an object changes its speed or
direction of motion (or both)

Classroom Activities

Students will conduct an experiment on propulsion in regard to thrust/lift/drag/and weight
Students will investigate gravity forces being greater than friction during a demo on sliding forces.
Students will participate in a magnet lab.
Students will participate in an assessment on P.13.1 and P.13.2

Assignments Due

*All retests will be due no later than Friday, October 16th.
There will be a formative assessment this week also due on/by Friday Oct. 16th.

Innovation students will be filling out graphic organizers to go along with their Edgenuity studies this week. These are to be placed into the notebooks to help with the quiz.
