SC.912.E.7.3 (DOK Level 3) Differentiate and describe the various interactions among Earth systems, including: atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, geosphere, and biosphere. SC.6.E.7.9 (DOK Level 2) Describe how the composition and structure of the atmosphere protects life and insulates the planet.
Learning Targets and Learning Criteria
Students will: • differentiate and demonstrate interactions among the Earth’s o Geosphere o Hydrosphere o Cryosphere o Atmosphere o Biosphere • describe the interactions between the geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere Students will: • describe the composition and structure of the Earth’s atmosphere • describe the functions of the four main layers of Earth’s atmosphere: o Thermosphere, Mesosphere, Stratosphere, Troposphere • explain how Earth’s atmosphere protects life and insulates the planet including the ozone layer • discuss the impacts to life if Earth’s atmosphere is compromised due to climate change and ozone depletion (students will not be assessed on the causes of global warming or causes of the ozone hole)
Classroom Activities
Students will view a demonstration on Clouds and how they are created, what they are made of, and their role in weather in the atmosphere. Students will participate in a lab that identifies the different layers of the geosphere/lithosphere Students will use graphic organizers to show the different layers in the atmosphere and the geosphere.
Assignments Due
Thurs/ Friday: Formative assessment on the Layers of the Atmosphere This Friday is the last day to retake the Earth Structures Test before the end of the Semester.
Additional Resources
ESE/504/ESOL Accomodations: Students will be allowed multiple retakes for quizzes on Edgenuity. Students can have extended time on lessons and assignments. Students can have transcripts available to them and frequent breaks will be able to be taken. Students can ask teacher to rephrase questions and extra help sessions are available twice weekly in addition to regular instruction. In class students have the above provided plus preferential seating and reminders/encouragement when completing class work.
