Learning Targets and Learning Criteria

Student Goals: 

  • Students will discuss key Roman figures like – Hannibal Barca, Julius Cesar and Agustus. 
  • Students will apply their knowledge to discuss how the territorial expansion from the Punic Wars led Rome to be one the most powerful nations in the western world.
Classroom Activities

 

Monday: Read the sections “Political Institutions,” “Military,” and “Foreign Policy and Expansion” of the article Roman Republic. Answer the questions listed at the end of each section.

Tuesday: Read the sections “Economic Development” and  “Urban Development of Rome” of the article Roman Republic. Answer the questions listed at the end of each section.  Your answers from Monday and Tuesday will be combined, submitted, and placed into Grade Book

Wednesday: Read the article “The Punic Wars.” Write which army won each of the three wars. This should be 3-5 sentences.

Thursday: Watch the videos “Exchange between Rome, Carthage, and the Phoenicians” and “Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage.” You will write two paragraphs (5-6 sentences each) explaining why the Punic Wars happened, and why Rome ultimately won. This will be placed into Grade Book. 

Friday: There will be a quiz on Edmodo based on the Roman Republic and the Punic Wars. Review the articles and videos from this week to prepare for the quiz. Paper-based: Explain why you think Rome expanded from a small republic to a large empire, based off of the information on the start of the Roman Republic, and the Punic Wars. This should be two paragraphs. 

 The goal is for you to use this information to work in this class everyday. However, if not everything is completed on each day, please have everything submitted by Sunday night at 8 p.m.  

Assignments Due

All answers to questions in the “Roman Republic” article from Monday and Tuesday will be placed into Grade Book. A  two paragraph (5-6 sentences each) response explaining why the Punic Wars happened, and why Rome ultimately won will also be placed into Grade Book. Both will be due on Sunday, April 26.

IEP and ESOL:

Special considerations will be provided for IEP and Accommodation plans.
